DHARAMSHALA, October 8: The fourth Miss Himalaya Pageant will see two girls from Dharamshala compete for the coveted crown on Sunday at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts Auditorium (TIPA).

Students of Dharamshala Degree College, the two contestants Ayushi Sethi, 21 and Parul Patel, 23 are currently pursuing BBA and MBA respectively and both aspire to continue in modeling career after their studies.

Speaking at a press conference, both Ayushi and Parul stated that they feel fortunate and blessed to have got a platform to enhance their career in modeling and showcase their talents. The contestants also hope that next year more girls from Himalayan region would participate in this pageant.

Having received six applications, Lobsang Wangyal, pageant’s Director said that others failed to make it for various reasons.

“I think the tourism and cultural departments of various states in the Himalayan region and countries should encourage such pageant since it promotes Himalayan culture and empowers the women of these regions,” said Lobsang Wangyal.

The winner will be awarded prize money of one lakh rupees and the first runners up will be presented with fifty thousand rupees.

The director thanked the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority for supporting this year’s pageant with a donation of one lakh rupees. He feels that such support would help make the pageant better.

The competition will have three rounds, including Introduction, Traditional Costume and Interview rounds followed by the crowning of the winner by the 2015 Miss Himalaya.

Last year there were five participants and Tanshuman Gurung was crowed the Miss Himalaya. This year’s Miss Tibet Tenzin Sangnyi was named the first runner-up in that edition.
